Wyndham Place
Marylebone, London
A very large Georgian house, three windows wide, had been latterly the headquarters of a charity. No garden, but the spaces inside were generous. Much work to uncover and repair lost features and remake palatial rooms out of a warren of offices. New work contrasts sharply with rooms which have either been restored, or left in a rough semi ruined state. The original stone cantilevered stair which rises through two storeys had been visually undermined by superfluous steelwork. This was removed and damaged stone carefully stitched, restoring the sinuous line of the original.
